OneRochester, that is!
Both of us sat down for a discussion on the menu and a date to meet up with Joanne from OneRochester again.
Since there is no room to reduce the price further, we decided to ask for more things to be thrown in. I am beginning to visualise how the ROM will turn out to be! *Excited*

White Link
While shopping at Marina Square, we chanced upon the road show from White Link so we sat down for a non-obligatory sales pitch.
Their promotional package was at $3,388 for the standard stuff with a ROM package thrown in FOC. The lady gave us up to 32 poses, a Mercedes as the bridal car and my mum's dress on the actual day. She kept asking us if we would like to add on more things to the package or do we have concerns on any particular areas.
I feel the lady's sincerity and we were tempted by the attractive package. However, we have no intention of signing up for the package that day as our priority has been given to our ROM. So, she became rather pushy towards the end and tried really hard to make us change our minds. Determined as we were, she was later joined by another colleague who saw her diminishing persuading power but we stood firm.
Frankly speaking, I wanted to sign up for the package initially because of their ROM package worth $600 plus and I thought it could save us a sum. My main concern is that I might not be able to find a gown/ dress to my liking be it for ROM or wedding in 2011 cos there was not any showcase of their collections despite their boasting of over 400 designs in the warehouse.
Nevertheless, we will still keep White Link in mind..

HDB application - Dawson estate
Put up our application for HDB flats again today, this time round for the hot-like-crazy and oversubscribed BTO projects at Dawson – SkyVille and Sky Terrace 4-room flats.
Though it will only be completed in 2015, we thought there is no harm in giving it a try.
I like the SkyVille flex-layout scheme where buyers are allowed to choose the layout of the house, be it a bigger living room or a bigger bedroom!

DressMeUp
After the wedding show, we popped by Dressmeup at Far East Plaza, Level 4, wanting to find out more about the ROM packages they have.
Rental of dresses starts from $68 onwards with a pair of earrings and a necklace thrown in.
ROM package includes:
- Dress (only applicable to the $68 range. Top up of difference if dress is not within this range)
- Makeup (no trial makeup)
- Hairstyling
- Necklace and earrings
- 3-hour photography
- Fake eyelashes
- Eyebrow trimming
- Hand bouquet
This package is at $528 (if I remembered correctly).
Tailor-making of dresses is also available and it starts from $228 depending on the complexity of it and subject to whether the designer wants to take up the job.
I only saw 2 dresses to my liking and their makeup skill does not impress me at all.
Nevertheless, I am still going to keep this in view first until I go for a second visit with Joo again.

"Because You Do, We Do Too" Wedding Show at Orchard Hotel
We went for our third wedding show at Orchard hotel last Saturday and it was a tad different from the previous two. Instead of the usual theatrette style, we were seated at the round table similar to those at wedding dinners and were served a 5-course meal specially prepared by the famous Hua Ting chef throughout the programme.
I found their shark fin’s in creamy pumpkin soup yummy! I went crazy for their desserts too! They had cute mini cupcakes, mango sago with pomelo, mini mango cake, mini chocolate cake with crispy crust, platter of fruits and chocolate fondue!!
I was totally amazed by the wide array of beautiful wedding and evening gowns showcased by the only bridal studio – X-Zen. They catered to what I’m looking out for in gowns – uniqueness! We sat and listened for the bridal package and apparently they do organize overseas photo shoot trips Phuket, Taiwan and Macau. I did find the lady familiar though and I think we both have seen her from the Suntec wedding exhibition with Joo and Jayven.
I will be checking out this bridal boutique pretty soon.
The other exhibitor at the wedding show which I think I might use their service is Live Studio, a photography studio. They are able to have the photos shown instantaneously on the screens seconds after they were being taken and the package, without videography service, includes 10-hour photography on actual day and unlimited number of instant photographs of guests before the dinner.
I thought this is a good way to keep the guests entertained while they are having the cocktails. It cost around $2,300 for the package.
Wedding dinner package offered by Orchard hotel is pretty standard, nothing special in fact.

Updates
Photographer/videographer - Henry
Justice of Peace (JP) - Flora
Venue - Both
Gown and suit - Flora & Henry respectively
One task down! We have managed to secure a JP - without much effort actually - all thanks to this special but mysterious friend! Haha.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH - You know who you are ;)
I have been searching intensively for designs of dresses and also asking around for recommended tailors. I would say, so far so good. I have somewhat decided on a design from Olive Suite which I saw in a magazine and a few tailors have been shortlisted.
There was a variety show on Channel 8 some time back that helped housewives who want to earn extra cash to set up businesses in areas which they are good in. It just so happened that there was one episode which featured a skilled tailor who is able to magically create a beautiful dress out of a piece of cloth. I rang her up and was quoted $180 and above for a dress that will take around a month to complete.
The other potential one would be Yiqian's mom, who does this for a living! Messaged her a couple of weeks back and she would let me know of her mom's availability as her mom is currently based in Brunei.
Other than tailor-making the dress, I am also open to getting a off-the-rack. Joo has volunteered to go with me on a quest to shop for a dress! Who would be more suitable than the girl who has just had her ROM this year??
I have moved a step further to source for a hairstylist to do both of our hair on that day and the most suitable person to do the job is none other than our hairstylist, Edward! Like what Rui Lian said, he's the Ah Bu to us, just like David Gan is to Fann Wong and Christopher Lee. Haha.
We went down to the salon in the evening for Henry's haircut and told him that we would like him to do up our hair that day. He readily agreed, of course and I could tell that he was more than willing to do it!
However, one downside is that he will not be able to do our hair at the venue as the salon does not provide such on-site hairstyling services. This would mean we have to head down to the salon a couple of hours before, rush down to the venue for preparation thereafter and run the risk of having my hair messed up while doing makeup and dressing up. Nonetheless, we are still keeping Edward at the top of our minds.
After the haircut, he even brought us to one of the gown boutiques at that level to show us some beautiful dresses in the display window, knowing that I have been searching for one. He gave some suggestions as to what kind of dresses he thinks will suit me. It was just great to have some advice from someone who is constantly at the edge of fashion!
As he continued in contributing ideas from his professional perspective, he told us a few hairstyles that he has done before and excitedly threw in some ideas for mine. I could sense his enthusiasm a few miles away! He makes me feel so excited and I am simply looking forward to that day..
I feel so blessed with so many kind souls around us! :)

Tasks
We have further shortlisted OneRochester for our ROM venue.
Now, it's bargaining time! We are trying our best to reduce the cost per pax.
Tasks have been delegated among the 2 of us:
Photographer/videographer - Henry
Justice of Peace (JP) - Flora
Venue - Both
Gown and suit - Flora & Henry respectively
We were thinking what should we wear since it's going to be a casual event. I still want to stick to a knee-length dress but he said it's too formal. Couple t-shirts and bermudas came to our minds though.
After much thoughts, I don't think I want to be the typical Singaporean - too casually underdressed!

HDB flat
Bad news...
We are No. 1539 in the queue to choose the 300 over units of flats from HDB.
How can we possibly get it?!
Though I'm already mentally prepared that it is going to be unlikely for us to be successful on our first application but I'm still a little overwhelmed by disappointment and so does Henry...
He sounded so disappointed when he broke the news to me yesterday.

Last 2 choices...
The last 2 places up for recce:
1. Flutes At The Fort
This restaurant is located at Coleman Street, near Registry Of Marriage.
The main entrance to the restaurant.
It kind of looked a little unkempt and cluttered with plants from the walkway below. First impression was not very good though.
The place where we took the picture from will be the solemnisation area. It's just a small, unsheltered area.
This was the alfresco place which attracted me pick this restaurant. Unfortunately, it will not be open to us on that day as there might be some customers who will linger around after lunch.
After walking out of that place, we readily struck it off our list.
Firstly, the person whom I contacted was unprofessional enough to go on leave on the day we went down. Though she gave a last-minute notice the day before but she did not get back on who will be attending to us the next day.
Secondly, the changing/ make-up room they are able to provide on the ROM day will be their office! How pathetic...
Thirdly, the area which they plan to cordon off for our event is too small.
Lastly, there is no decorations thrown in the package, flower centrepiece for each table.
2. British Club
This place is located at Bukit Timah, near the Bukit Timah Nature Reserve.
The front porch of British Club.
Its entrance.
These are the only 2 pictures of the venue cos the night mode of my camera is not going to do any justice to them.
The place exuded a cosy English countryside atmosphere and it was so not our style! The only plus point about this place is its affordable package.
3 locations within the Club that are open for our consideration:
- Verandah Terrace
The environment is too open to old a private event.
- Ballroom
Too common! I would not have chosen this place if I wanted a ballroom.
- Rooftop
Oversee the lush greenery surrounding the Club but it is going to be scorching hot in the afternoon.
The package does not include deocrations; we will need to top up $500+ just for it and wedding favours will come at additional $2+ per guest. Besides, accessibility really poses a big problem as it is way into the Bukit Timah area.
We are currently working out the price for this. There is definitely a tough competition between British Club and OneRochester.
