The make up meet-up
I was rather touched when Angeline, Ruilian and Xuefen suggested to have dinner on the next day after the proposal, to make up for not being able to be present the day before.
They were so happy for me and were excited to see the newly-added accessory on my finger. But I didn't wear it out on that day. :(
We discussed about my wedding day and their targeted year to get hitched. Haha! The whole conversion was just so funny!
It was really sweet of them.. Thank you for the treat, girls!

The Special Day - 24 May 2009
I only came to know about this floweroperation blog when Yiqian revealed to me while we were having the refreshments. I thought the name sounds cute, like a little secret operation.
I'm really thankful to everyone who took time to come all the way here for this pleasant surprise. All your efforts have not gone down the drain although I kind of knew what was coming.
I began to smell a fish when he told me the night before that he wanted to charge my digital camera for photo taking during the birthday party. He was never one to be so enthusiatic about taking photos though. The second suspicious item that he brought with him to my house was his laptop which he claimed would be used for playing music.
One by one came his friends handing me a small bouquet of 5 white roses each. I couldn't imagine that he really put mathematics, the subject he is so great at into use:
24 May 2009 = Our 75th month = (15 friends x 5 roses) + 24 roses (the date we got together) which he was holding
All I could say was, Perfect Calculation!
The ring which was subjected to much of my scrutiny.. I like the fact that it has a combination of silver and rose gold.
If only you look carefully...

It all started when Henry aka Cai Jie told me Zhen Ping would be holding his birthday party at the Jurong Spring CC. I was thinking deep down inside that who would celebrate his/her birthday - not even a significant one like 21st - at a CC that is so far from his house. I took it as it was after CJ tried very hard to convince me on that point.
I began to smell a fish when he told me the night before that he wanted to charge my digital camera for photo taking during the birthday party. CJ told me that I could sleep in a little later and that he would be at the venue to help out first. But when he came to fetch me, he actually made a big boo-boo by calling Norvin to inform that we are on our way there!
Sometimes one cannot help but to believe in the power of a woman's intuition, I tell you. I felt something was up his sleeve and I questioned him perpetually, in search of any loopholes in his answers. That was the first time he appeared to be so not confident in giving his answers, super unconvincing! But I could understand his nervousness in arranging everything just to pop the question.
What was supposed to be a birthday party room turned out to be a solemnisation room and I could see the awkardness in the "birthday boy" when I shook his hand. Besides, how could the host be so laid back so he was supposed to be welcoming and entertaining his guests??
The butterflies really set in when I was seated down to view a video and there was a video camera right in front of my face! When I saw the first slide, I really could not believe my turn has come.. Everything became so surreal.

All I could say was, Perfect Calculation!I really couldn't contain my excitement and happiness when I saw Qian and other friends like Haiqi, Yoke Ying, Shena, Jasmine and Hui Han!
I was looking behind for more surprise guests' appearance but it stopped. I felt a tinge of disappointment when my Toyota buddy, Ivy and Poly buddy, Azzah were not there. I was greedy; I wish more of my friends, people whom I would love to share the joy with were there:
1) Yingqi Duckie - far away in UK
2) Evon - in London
3) Joo - work commitment
4) Donut - thought the whole proposal was postponed! (I only knew about this when he called to ask me about the proposal ppt slides he saw on FB. I was like, what the hell is the Toyota coordinator - Ivy- doing?!)
5) The whole Toyota gang which includes Adrian, Susie, Jissny, Yen Ling, Ruilian, Angeline, Xuefen, Colin, Teck Meng. Oh, actually Donut is also one of the gang members.
Never mind, let's just hope they will be able to make it for the BIG DAY!
Oh ya, not forgetting to mention about the climax of the whole plan - when the man went down on his knee to pop that question. Ok, I admitted that I did something stupid and so-not-romantic by scrutinising the ring he was holding (while still on his knee) and asked, "Eh, is this the ring I wanted?"

It was only once in a lifetime, you know! And it was weird that I didn't shed tears although I could feel them rolling in the eyes.
Many asked that million-dollar question: "Did you cry?" or "Why didn't you cry?"
Only he knows the reason and I was only too glad that he knows me well. *grins*
Preparation For Our 99th Month
Just finish a few changes to the blog. Can’t stop thanking all who had woke up early on 24/05/09, coming to the west to make this proposal so romantic and memorable to us. Hope that the food that day is good and everyone had enjoyed yourselves.

After I’ve seen Jayven and Joo’s ROM, I think they have set yet another level for me to reach. Fear not. I have my lovely Flora to plan our ROM together. Joo and Jayven, I am not copying your style okay. I just think that your idea of engaging your friends about the progress of your preparation is cool.
So, I am thinking of changing the blog layout and contents to suit the preparation of our solemnization on our 99th month. This will require discussion with Flora and so the content stay this way for a while.

1st Experience of Solemnization
Attended Jayven & Joo’s ROM today.
The solemnization was in the afternoon. Woke up quite early thinking that I will be slowly taking bus to Flora’s house to fetch her. However, ended taking cab to her house. We then made our way to Jurong Point to have our lunch. As the weather doesn’t look good, we took a cab to the venue – Singapore Zoological Gardens.
We had to take a tram to the venue where we met the man, Mr. Jayven Ang… Busy with the people who arrive with us. Finally, he noticed Flora and I, and pointed where we can find the bride.
Joo was doing her hair when we went into the room. Her mum, dad and some of her friends were in there too. So we didn’t really talk to her while she was chatting with her friends. Moments later, her friends left the room and we passed her the present – a picture of both of them drawn in the caricature way.
The solemnization started sometime later with Joo, taking the horse carriage to the venue with her father, Jayven helping her down, guided by a little pony to the table. Then the JP conducted the solemnization and they signed the marriage certificate before us.
They then took photos with the family and friends and took the horse carriage again for a tour around the zoo, while family and friends made their way into the dining area.
After eating, Flora and I took a walk and we were discussing about our ROM which should be on our 99th month, 24/05/11. Yes, exactly two years after I proposed. Its time to start saving and planning and yes, with my lovely fiancée.

D Day
The day has finally arrived! Woke up pretty early and tried to go back to sleep but was worried that I might wake up late. So I went watch TV and waited for the time to pass.
As time draws near, I went to bath and prepare myself to go the venue to setup the laptop. While styling my hair, Flora’s mum asked me where was I going and why isn’t Flora following. Haiz, had the tendency to tell her but afraid that she is too happy and will give funny expressions to Flora when she wakes up.
She also asked when are we going to apply house and the usual conversation that we normally have. Left her house to the venue and start to setup. Her friends slowly turn up and it was my 1st time meeting up with them. Arranged them into the room for a final walk through and a glimpse of the montage.
Ivy couldn’t come since she had a headache and eventually, Colin and Teck Meng, who was suppose to meet her got missing too… Wonder where these two guys could have gone together….
Proceeded to Flora’s house again to bring her, and was very nervous in that few minutes. She started asking me questions which at that moment, my mind was totally blank and I stammer while answering and that probably gave me away.
My guess was she probably know that I was going to propose but she did not know that I had prepared a montage and her school friends, which I hardly know, was going to be there too… I am totally confident on this point… HOHOHO…
When we reach the room, she continued her questioning but I ignored her and left her to Raymond, Emma, Zhen Ping and Eileen. Then I told her I need to attend to something and rush off and “The Operation” starts…
I was expecting that she will at least tear but she held her tears back. When I went into the room, can see her face that she was holding back but continued with the passing of flowers and kneeled down to ask the question. She didn’t reply straight away, but she told me why, but eventually, she nodded.

I bought my laptop to work last Friday, 8th May, and show some of my colleagues the montage. Received good comments from the audience. So happy.
Met Raymond, Zhen Ping & Eileen to test the connectivity from the laptop to the LCD TV, and I was quite satisfied with the outcome. In fact, I think it will be better than the projected image from a projector.
Went to book one more hour of the buffet room so our friends can mingle till 1.30pm. Then we went to Raymond’s house to discuss on the food to order.
Called the caterers yesterday to order the food and finalized the order. So what is left is the confirmation of flowers. Yanting hasn’t revert to me on the price of the flowers.

Blooper!
Flora is meeting her Toyota friends today. She smsed me saying that her phone’s battery is going low. So I smsed Ivy telling her that Flora might be using her phone to call me, so I asked Ivy to delete my contact and whatever smses I sent to her to avoid suspicion on the operation.
But I did not expect that Flora to be beside her and she saw the sms. Instead of avoiding suspicion, I arose more suspicion!
Sigh… I think this is one big blooper I made. Hopefully, she did see more than that message.
I think the worrying part sets in already. I don’t know if other guys had this phobia before they propose but I am quite worried of a negative answer. I think this feeling will be with me for 20 days more, and the feeling will be very strong on that very day.

Immediate Actions
After knowing that the function room at Raymond’s parents’ condo is not available, I went back office to do research immediately on Monday,27/04/09. Thought of Safra initially but quite inaccessible. I contacted the community centre behind Flora’s house and they inform they may be able to help.
So I went to the CC with Raymond and Emma to take a look. The area the CC staff showed me is very nice. In fact, they used it for solemnization. I mentioned to the staff that I need to include food for my guest and they suggested the classroom beside it. I can also hide all the friends there. I’ll try to come out with a sketch of the place and post it here.
Anyway, they informed that I will have to contact their solemnizer to confirm the place. Had dinner after visiting the place with Raymond and Emma and had more discussion. I think I will not be able to get 25 friends since most of them are not free. I have updated the confirmed friends list of the right with (C) meaning Confirm, (P) meaning Pending.
Therefore, we decide to go with 5 roses in the small bouquet and get 15 bouquets.
Went to office to call the solemnizer and confirm the place on Tuesday, 28/04/09. He told me to go to the CC to book the room soon. So I had to make another trip down, this time with another purposes, to check whether the LCD TV can be use as my projected screen.
The initial plan was to have the projector and projector screen which cost $300/- to rent. But upon discovering the TV, Raymond suggested it could be use for projection of the video-photo montage. Luckily, the staff there mentioned other couples whom had used the area for solemnization had use it to connect to their laptop before.
So I book the room, including the class room beside, at $130/- for 2 hours. On second thoughts, should have book 2 more hours for the class room so as not to rush hor. Nevermind, I will check the availability again.
Finally completed the PowerPoint slide yesterday and quite happy with the presentation. However, I think I am lousy with words and have to let some friends comment on it before I call it the final draft.
Flora went out with Yi Qian today. Although I sound quite sad that I have to send the night before a holiday alone, I am actually glad that I can finish the slides.
The days left to the “Operation” day is nearing and I guess the only outstanding is the food.
Got to source for caterers to confirm the food soon. So happy that I’ve got so many things completed this week. Will update soon…
